Recognizing the importance of Horticulture, its growth potential in Andhra Pradesh
and its contribution to State GDP, Government of Andhra Pradesh had established
Andhra Pradesh Horticultural University, second of its kind in the country at
Venkataramannagudem, West Godavari district during 2007. Subsequently, it was
renamed as Dr.Y.S.R.Horticutlural University during 2011.

The University has a
mandate of human resource development through education, conducting need based
and location specific research and dissemination of the proven technologies through
extension activities.
A total of 43 institutions comprising of 4 Colleges of Horticulture, 4 Horticultural
Polytechnics, 20 Research Stations and 4 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK’s) in the
government sector, 4 Private Horticultural Colleges and 7 Private Horticultural
Polytechnic colleges affiliated to this University are functioning under the control of
this University.

The university is functioning with primary mission of imparting Quality Education
in Horticulture and developing skilled, analytical and globally competitive human
resources for sustainable and inclusive growth of horticulture in India. The University
offers two year Diploma in Horticulture, four year B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture, two year
M.Sc. (Horticulture) and three year Ph.D. (Horticulture) with specialization in (i) Fruit
Science (ii) Vegetable Science (iii) Floriculture and Landscaping (iv) Plantation,
Spices, Medicinal and Aromatic crops (v) Post-Harvest Management (vi) Plant
Pathology (vii) Entomology.
